COMMONLABS Review: Is This Skin1004 Sister Brand Worth Checking out?

2 COMMONLABS products sitting on a tray

I had the opportunity to try out a couple of COMMONLABS products last summer! As far as I can tell, this brand has been around for a few years now, and is a sister brand of Skin1004, albeit quite a lot lesser known. While there appears to have been a wide variety of products available years back, it seems they've been discontinued and replaced by a brightening line consisting of a toner, cream, ampoule and sun serum. Being a huge fan of Skin1004 and how gentle their products are, I had very high hopes for this brand. Today I will be going over the ampoule and sun serum!

Vitamin C Brightening Ampoule

COMMONLABS ampoule and texture shot on a tray

Product Features

  • Formulated with 1ppm pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid), 2,499ppm vitamin C derivative (3-0-ethyl ascorbic acid), sea buckthorn extract, niacinamide & a multi-fruit complex

  • Brightens, nourishes, reduces freckles & dark spots

The first thing that caught my attention about this ampoule is its amazing and realistic orange peel scent! The texture is very watery, absorbing beautifully without any stickiness or tackiness. I found it to be very gentle, making it ideal for sensitive skin. This ampoule not only brightens my skin significantly but also helps calm irritation. With its anti-inflammatory properties, sea buckthorn has always been beneficial for my rosacea, making this ampoule a great choice for those experiencing a lot of redness.

Vitamin C Brightening Sun Serum

COMMONLABS sun serum texture shot on a tray

Product Features

  • Formulated with ascorbic acid, sea buckthorn extract, lemon extract, grapefruit extract & a 15 multi-vitamin complex

  • Brightens skin while providing SPF 50+ PA++++UV protection

This product is so unique, and it's also my first experience using sun protection in a serum form! It has a thick, jelly-like consistency and shares the same incredible orange peel fragrance of the ampoule. Although it has a thick jelly texture, it absorbs so well, without leaving my skin feel sticky or tacky. The brightening effects of this sun serum aren't as pronounced as those of the ampoule, but it's still quite effective and very gentle.

Conclusion

After thoroughly testing these two products, I can confirm that they are just as effective, gentle, and high quality as our beloved Skin1004! My skin can be quite reactive, particularly with products containing actives like vitamin C, so I was pleasantly surprised by how calm my skin remained while using this duo. I'm very much looking forward to trying the other 2 products in their brightening range!
